Jaisalmer day trip
A full day out to the border posts, about 120 km west of Jaisalmer. Tanot Mata Temple, maintained by the Border Security Force, keeps unexploded shells from the 1965 and 1971 wars on display. Longewala is the 1971 battle site, with recovered tanks and an outdoor memorial. The drive takes you along the Ramgarh road and past the edge of the Desert National Park.
Tanot and Longewala are close to the border: carry a valid photo ID, which is checked more than once, and tell us in advance if anyone travelling is a foreign national, so the paperwork can be arranged where it applies.
